Poem of the Week
Douleur
Erin L. Ives (Cleo)

I wanted to sleep
until stones settled,
or at least
until I could admit
that I'm not
in the middle
of a mix-up,
but some scars
never give in.

I know that crickets
will collide with dusk --
day after day --
but I can't stand
the sounds of seasons
as they apologize
and move on.

After three years of this,
I'm still vodka
on the verge
of pouring over --
and all I can do
is sip to the hum
of limitations.

Somewhere between wisdom
and waves of dead weight,
I am reminded
that tragedies
are never finished.

Maybe someday
I'll find the peace
I pretend to have,
but I already know
that fire
tastes the same
every time
I have to swallow it.
